Interesting Visitor
« on: March 05, 2010, 08:55:05 AM »
Had an interesting visitor come to the shop I work at.  A fuel truck from Janesville Jet Center was brought to us for some repairs.  Needless to say, but I was more than happy to work on it.  It was even a great day for flying and the traffic pattern at KJVL (only 800-900 yards away from our shop) was busy.  This truck was made in 1984 and the mileage in the photo of the odometer is correct and original mileage.  It is in absolutely superb shape for being 26 years old.  According to the total meter reading, this truck has pumped 563,000 US gallons of fuel!  Today I even learned that 100LL is blue (at least the fuel in this truck is blue).  Now if they'd just let me do some service calls TO the airport... :)

Yup... 100LL is blue. 100 octane is red and jet fuel is clear.

23,000 miles on the odometer? Pretty impressive for a truck that hardly ever leaves the airport!

I got to tow this thing back to Janesville Jet Center on Friday.  It's not road legal (no plates) which required the return tow.  I got to poke around inside their lounge a bit and they have a nice view.

We had one of these dinosaurs at KMDH until very recently. SIU just bought a new one. I think our truck was from 1982! And, the only reason they got rid of it was because the engine litterally fell out of it! Awesome pics.

PS - JVL is a really cool airport. I've only been once, but I'd definitely like to go back.

Ah yes, good old MDH.  Have had the jet there many times!  I used to love that run from IGQ to MDH to MDW.

Can't remember the name, but he was wheelchair bound, and both he, and his assistant were great fun to have as passengers.
